BIO

Adrienn Erdei is based in Budapest, Hungary. She graduated as a Painter in 2016 from the University of Pécs (Hungary) Master of Arts in Painting (MA).
After university, she worked in restoration and mural painting. In 2021 she decided to return to university and graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts as a Teacher of Fine Arts (MA). She has been working as an art teacher since 2021, teaching drawing, painting and art history at an art high school.

Her work is characterized by a deep psychological approach to the visual environment, often exploring the boundaries between the physical body and the inner psyche. She is interested in repetitive patterns and schemes in her works. Between 2014 and 2019, her practice came to the forefront through a distinct series featuring helmeted nude figures—a motif used to examine the paradoxes of vulnerability and enclosure, the mechanical and the human.

Her recurring use of everyday objects—such as plastic basins, curtains, and walled-up windows—serves as a complex system of metaphors for female identity, social isolation, and the “Danse Macabre” of existence. Whether through hospital-themed “medical case records” or surreal mythological re-interpretations like her Minotaur or Grand Odalisque series, she consistently challenges the viewer’s role, often placing them in the position of a voyeur to confront themes of objectification and existential hopelessness.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the notable “2057 – Personal Utopias” at the MANK Gallery in Szentendre (2022). She currently lives and works in Budapest, Hungary.
