The paintings titled “Big Odalisque“ essentially belong to my “Torso” series, as the composition is cropped in a way that the entire body is not visible. Within the composition, the woman is not ill at ease; however, the viewer is placed in the role of a voyeur. This visually manifests a sense of vulnerability and helplessness before the gaze—a concept I interpret both psychologically and compositionally.

The title references Ingres’s The Grand Odalisque, establishing an art-historical parallel. The word “odalisque” means harem girl, captive, or chambermaid. Through this, I also refer to the historical social position of women and the difficulty of breaking free from those constraints over the centuries.

A Nagy Odalisque című festmények lényegében a Torzó képeim közé tartoznak, hiszen a kompozíció úgy van vágva, hogy a teljes test nem látható. A kompozícióban a nő nem feszélyezett, viszont a néző, mintha a kukkoló szerepébe kerülne, ezzel vizuálisan megjelenik a kiszolgáltatottság, a tekintetnek való tehetetlenség is, amelyet értek pszichésen ugyanúgy, mint kompozíciósan.

A cím utal Ingres: Nagy Odalisque című festményére, ezzel művészettörténeti párhuzamba helyezve. A cím, odalisque szó jelentése háremhölgy, rabnő, szolgáló, mely az évszázadok során a nő társadalomban lévő helyzetére, abból való kitörésének nehézségére is utalok.
